My life won't be a cautious journey to my grave with the intention of arriving safely in a perfect, well preserved body...I think I would rather skid in sideways on a bitchin' chopper thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaim "Wow, what a ride!"Indian Larry

This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Travis Austin Bestwick who was born on May 29, 1983 and passed away on June 22, 2008. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Travis was born on May 29, 1983 at St. Clare's Hospital in Baraboo, WI, just a little guy at 5 lbs 15 oz, he came in to this world in a big way.  At just 8 hours old we were told we would have to take him to St. Mary's in Madison, due to a physical birth defect that could have had some more complicated internal defects.  So the nurses wrapped him in a blanket out of a warmer and his Aunt Kileen, Grandma Lorraine, his Dad, Rick & I drove him to Madison.  After several days at St. Mary's all was found to be ok, except the bone issue, which as those that knew him, knew his right arm was shorter than his left and he only had four fingers on that hand.

On June 22, 2208 he left this world just like he came in, in a big way.  I believe he fought until the end, and that he waited for Shawna and I to tell him it was ok for him to go, that we would be ok and that we would take care of his Dad. At 8:08 am he succumbed to the injuries he sustained after being run down while riding his bestfriends motorcycle.

While Travis may be gone the legend of Tito B "Five Feet of Fury" will live on forever.  We love you and miss you Travis and we will never forget you.

I can just imagine these words going through Travis' head as he lay on that road, some of the words don't exactly fit the situation, but it really hits home for me.  I LOVE YOU SON!

Death of an Innocent

I went to a party, Mom,
I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
So I drank soda instead.

I really felt proud inside, Mom,
The way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom,
Even though the others said I should.

I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom,
As everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got onto my bike, Mom,
I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me,
So responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom,
But as I pulled out into the road,
The other car didn't see me, Mom,
And hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,
I hear the policeman say,
"The other guy is drunk," Mom,
And now I'm the one who will pay.

I'm lying here dying, Mom...
I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom?
My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom,
And most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom,
I'll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom,
I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom.
The others didn't think.

He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank
And I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom?
It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now.
Pains just like a knife.

The guy who hit me is walking, Mom,
And I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying
And all he can do is stare.

Tell my sister not to cry, Mom.
Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom,
Put "Mommy's Boy" on my grave.

Someone should have told him, Mom,
Not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom,
I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom.
I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom.
When I needed you,
you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom.
Before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive,
So why am I the one to die?

Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. ~Author Unknown
